Dr. Tammy S. Anderson

- a little bit of history -

I grew up on a farm 16 miles SW of Bowdle that was a cow/calf, feedlot and farming operation.  On the average our cow/calf herd size was anywhere from 150 - 300 head.  We artificially inseminated cows when we calved out for Bieber Red Angus.  We also were involved in Embryo Transferring for some purebred breeders in the state.  I learned how to deal with calving difficulties, slow sucking and sick calves, vaginal and rectal prolapses, I also learned how to recognize sick calves in the feedlot early.  I loved the work not only because I was outside working with animals but also because I was recognizing and solving problems that were difficult and it was challenging.

I was always referred to as Dad's little Vet.  I liked the title.  I was always looking for a reason to be outside with the animals.  So I guess my Dad was the biggest influence since he did a lot of his own vet work.

I interned in June-July of 1990 at the National Zoo Vet Hospital in Washington DC.  Then spent the summer of 1992 in Chamberlain, SD working for Dr. Julie Williams.  After that summer, I worked for Dr. Stephen Frusher at Selby Veterinary Service for most of my remaining summers and breaks before I started vet school.  After graduating from SDSU in Dec. of 1994 with a bachelors in Animal science and a minor in Chemistry, I worked in Dr. Dave Hurley's immunology lab at SDSU assisting with research projects.  During vet school, I worked part-time for Dr. Brad Thacker in the Swine Production Medicine area of ISU.  I graduated from ISU Vet school in May 2000.

After graduation I worked for Dr. Frusher in Selby until June of 2004.  Having spent 4 years learning under and practicing with Dr. Frusher, I decided it was time to go back to my home town to start a veterinary practice.  I decided to have a facility built to my specifications, so I can better help all of my large and small animal clients.
Wanting to further my education, I attended schooling for Animal Chiropractic at Options for Animals in Wellsville, KS; finishing those studies in June of 2007.
